The Cardinal clock is ticking away
Over the last couple days the Cardinals have not talked to any other teams to decide on deals, whats going on? Every time I go to the Cardinals homepage I see the same thing over and over for at least two days and then they change the webpage. Like I have said before, if the Cardinals don’t want to spend money and with the team they have now, they won’t even make .500. If you have followed my blogs I have given some players to think on, but there are others on the market that would fit great too. All I’m saying is if the Cardinals wait too long, all the players they had in mind might be gone. I have no idea what is going on in the Cardinal organization, but I have a pretty good idea that the fans are getting a little unpatient. Pick up key players that will fit in St. Louis and then go get a World Series Title. Whoever reads this wants to give some ideas for key players, you’re welcome to do so.
Another MVP for Pujols?
Will Albert Pujols win another MVP award? Many people say yes and then their are some who say no. My opinion is that he will get another MVP award. Pujols had 47 homeruns and over 100 RBI’s, he had a .327 ave and 16 steals. The only fault I find in The Prince is that he went into a horrible slump at the end of the season, but I don’t think that will stop the votes to turn negative. He was first in homeruns and second or third in RBI’s, this man is a machine.
Pujols does a lot of things consistantly and he has tons of awards. I would hate to try and even count his trophies. Still Albert Pujols is a remarkable baseball player on and off the field, he sets up charity’s and he sponsors many golf outings to raise money for down syndrome kids and adults. Pujols is a wonderful man and he deserves the very best from all of us. The least we can do is give him an MVP!
Will the Cardinals be strong with pitching in 2010?
The only problem the St. Louis Cardinals have been faced with was the lack of pitching. In 2009 the Cardinals struggled with several of their starters and some of their relief pitching. What can the Cardinals do about it? Certainly 2 or more pitchers need to be aquired for the Cards, pitchers that will stay healthy and that are just plain good. The Cardinals when they get pitchers are usually washed up and are about to retire. So what is going to happen in 2010.
1. The Cardinals need to get a starting pitcher who will attack the strike zone and be able to get the batters out. They don’t need a really old pitcher or a really young pitcher either. The Cardinals need a pitcher who will come through the entire season with quality results.
2. The Cardinal orginazation needs to spend money. Over the past couple seasons there have been players who would have been a great addition, but they didn’t take advatage. They had a shot at Roy Halladay of the Bluejays, but didn’t want to spend money. The Cardinals don’t need to go overboard like the Yankees do, but they need quality pitchers. The only way to get those pitchers is to be willing to spend money.
3. There are 2 pitchers on the market that would be great for the Cardinals. John Lackey and Roy Halladay. John Lackey would be a great mix with Carpenter and Wainwright. Roy Halladay would be a absolute beast. You would have the 1 2 punch, Carp and Roy, that would be a great pitching lineup. But like I said before money is the key, if they don’t want to spend money they won’t get good pitchers. To me it’s just plain simple!
Cardinals Roll!
The Cardinals will most likely not keep Holliday, that’s okay. The Cardinals have several very good options.
1. The Cardinals could replace Holliday with Jason Bay. Bay had a very good season with the Boston Red Soxs, he had over 30 homeruns and about 100 RBI’s. I think the Red Soxs would love to have Holliday because he would replace Bay in the lineup. The only bad part about it is that Holliday will be back in the AL. In Oakland he hit very poorly, but he turned around when he came to the Cardinals. Bay on the other hand would be a great bat behind Pujols and he has a good glove.
2. The Cardinals could trade Holliday for either John Lackey of the Los Angeles Angels or Roy Halliday of the Toronto Bluejays. With either one of these pitchers the Cardinals would have a beastly pitching lineup. Carpenter, Wainwright, Lohse, Lackey or Halliday. The Cardinals could get both pitchers, they could trade Ankiel for either Lackey or Halliday.
3. The Cardinals could trade Holliday to get a good thirdbasemen. The Cardinals have already signed Mark DeRosa as a free agent so they don’t really have any thirdbasemen. They could go and get Diamond Backs third basemen Mark Reynolds. He may have a high strike-out percentage, but he has a big bat and a great glove.
The Cardinals have a lot of options and they could get either one of these players. The only problem is, are they going to spend the money to get these players. Even without Holliday the Cardinals will have a very good season in 2010.
Halliday to Cubs?
No, no, no. The Toronto Bluejays might want to do that then say yes. The Cubs haven’t been to the World Series for over 101 years. Why would a team like the Bluejays send their best pitcher to a team like the Cubs? The only thing the Bluejays are going to get are a few “top” prospects from the Cubs, anything from the Cubs is not a “top” anything. Give Halliday to Philly or St. Louis. The Phillies have a lot better chance of making it to the World Series and have a lot more talent. The Cardinals[ since they aren't keeping Holliday] can give the Toronto orginazation Matt Holliday. Clearly the Phillies and even the Cardinals can get a great pitcher and give the Toronto a real “top” player.
