More than likey the Cardinals will not get Lackey or Halladay, but they can get other very good pitchers and other infielders.
1. Rich Harden had an even average season in 09. I think he has what the Cardinals are looking for. Harden isn’t a stikeout type, but he does have a strong fastball. He is more of a Wainwright type, he has good kick on the fastball and a great slider, he also has a forkball. The Cardinals would be getting a pitcher who can go into the 8th inning and the 9th innings and still pitch strikes.
2. Randy Wolf is another player to look at. Wolf did very well in the postseason, he put some awsome numbers on the board. Wolf may not have overpowering heat but as long as he can get batters out he’s okay.
3. Jeff Weaver is another pitcher I would look at. Jeff used to be on the Cardinal team, it was foolish for the Cardinals to give him away, he was a great pitcher. Weaver has nice kick on his fastball and he has good off speed pitches. He would be a guy I would trust on the mound.
4. Ben Sheets. Sheets has a lot of experience, but he can get a lot of hitters out. I think he would fit on the team, a nice pitcher right after Carpenter. He gets the batters out and does that almost every inning.
5.Miguel Tejada would be another good pick for an infielder. He can play third and short. I like Tejada because he has good pop in his bat, but he is very quick on his feet. He would be a good hitter after Pujols.
6. Orlando Hudson is a great second basemen. He is quick on his feet and he is a perfect second hitter behind Skip. He has pop on his bat and he can just down right fly, he would fit in the Cardinal oginazation.
The one thing if you follow my blogs is that the Cardinals have to spend money. If they don’t they won’t have the calilber team that they want to make the World Series.
